Thank you for your kind email. Several parties have come forward to offer support for Lidia. I think the greatest fact that has come out of this whole affair and will be of most concern to your group is that:

The Anti Human Trafficking Department inside the UAE police is either a farce or powerless. As you can see from the story we went there for help and were offered assurances. The 'other' police who came at the directive of the traffickers themselves have, putting it diplomatically uncertain motives. At this point the Anti Human Trafficking Department still offered assurances but did nothing.

I have cc'd this to the Australian Foreign minister The Hon Alexander Downer MP, as I believe our consulate, at least should offer refuge for these trafficked people from the traffickers and the UAE police. This is especially the case with countries that have no consular support in Dubai. I think it's high time it is put back into the political spotlight, not just because of my interest but there must be 100's of other trafficked people here I have seen with my own eyes alone who most likely want to go home.

At this point I have never got any reply from UAE officialdom and Lidia's parent's also have been told nothing.

Kindest Regards

Mike Trinidad

Well to continue this story as far as I can see the bad reputation the UAE has regarding human trafficking on numerous websites is completely correct.

Last night Lidia actually got to call me and begged me to come to the police station where she was being held. She said I could visit and that she didn't know what was happening to her. I rushed to the police station and went to the cells to be told oh no you cannot see her visiting hours are between (am and 2pm come back tomorrow.

I go back today and 9:30am and they ask me what I want. I tell them I was told to come back today to visit Lidia. After some time they bring Lidia to the door, she is not allowed to speak and they say is this she to which I reply yes. Then they close the door and say I cannot visit her because today is for female visitors only! Then I am taken to see the captain and he then tells me she will be allowed no visitors as she is a prostitute and the investigation is ongoing! When asked when she will be deported I got no answer.

At this point Lidia does not know what is going on and her parents have been told nothing by the UAE authorities.

So bottom line if a trafficked woman goes to even the UAE police anti trafficking unit she will be the criminal and she will receive no compassion or assistance at all. To add insult to this her boss or handler is still free to roam the city.

I have seen your websites, what other NGO's can I bring this matter up with? Also I note that they appear to choose women from countries that have no consular help in Dubai. Would not be an issue to raise with compassionate countries that they should let it be known they will offer refuge, in this case from the Trafficking bosses and the UAE?

I look forward to your feedback as I am plainly worried she will just disappear and at this point it's one guy against a brick wall of disdain and deliberate frustration.

Sincerely

Mike Trinidad
